I'm not at all happy with Windows 7, but was advised to go with this OS because it's presumably more secure to have the latest version. I would have liked to have the option of using XP for some things. I have Windows Home Premium, so the XP mode option won't work for me, I guess. I've heard that ClamAV has false positives sometimes, and the other scanners JottiScan uses didn't find anything, but I wanted to be safe than sorry. I had looked at VueScan, but when I ran it through JottiScan ClamAV found a problem. Should I run the installer again? Or is that going to cause a whole other problem? Is it possible it's not installed at all? Since I can't find it, I can't uninstall it.

I assumed that it would install the driver there, but I don't see any. Last thing I saw before Windows blacked out everything but the prompt to give permission, was that the Installer said C:\ with nothing behind it. If I try some other work around, will this driver then interact in some funky way I'm not going to give up on making this scanner work. I also don't know if there are any problems with leaving this driver on the computer, wherever it may be, and forget about it. The scanner is in perfect condition and Canon has basically told me to trash it and buy a new one from them (and in the process lost all my respect!). Unless it never actually installed it, but then why would Windows ask me for permission to let it do that? I find it outrageous that Windows' permission popup obscured the dialog with the actual program I was working with, and then made it disappear. Shouldn't there be some way to search for the driver? I've looked up the original name of the driver file that I installed, but apparently that's not the name of the file it installed. I see nothing else like it listed in the device manager. inf file wouldn't be a shared one unless there was a similar driver already on the computer, right? This is a new computer, and no other scanner has come anywhere near it. inf file in the folder where the driver is installed.
